Rumors of My Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated

We’ve all seen them.  Abandoned blogs. Surfing the internet into its farthest reaches, you run across a lot of blogs with promising starts, several interesting posts, and abrupt endings. Other blogs start vigorously and gradually weaken with increasingly long gasps between blog posts until the fade.  The interwebs are a virtual graveyard of dead blogs.  Pun intended.

I’ve also read a few “Sorry I’ve been gone so long!” blog posts on previously dormant blogs. Most of those are pretty cringeworthy.  No matter what the excuses are – “I was just so busy in grad school; I sold my house and moved across the country; I was kidnapped by aliens; my computer died and then I forgot my password” – they are all still excuses.  We all want to make excuses, but no one wants to hear them.

I have not put out a blog post in 8 months.  The casual internet surfer who dropped in would conclude that Quirkella.com was abandoned.  But, my blog was never abandoned in my head.  I thought often about possible blog posts – even wrote a few.  Why didn’t I post them? Because…excuses.

As more time went by since my last blog post, I began to realize I would need to write the inevitable and obligatory “Hey Internet! I’m back!” post. I began to dread it. What would I say? What were my reasons for not posting? What were my excuses?  I needed to think about that, because my excuses for not blogging are the same excuses that are keeping me from reaching my goals in other areas of my life.

I’m still thinking about that. In the meantime, “Hey Internet! I’m back!”
